Race day canceled

It is with heavy hearts that we must cancel the Triangle Run/Walk for Autism tomorrow.

Your safety is our top priority, and we have been consulting with authorities and watching weather reports throughout this week. We toured our race course this morning. With higher rain totals now projected, parts of the course are expected to flood. Large, old trees line many of the streets, and we worry that the strong winds may bring down limbs or entire trees tomorrow. Earlier weather reports looked promising, but they have changed, and we cannot put thousands of people at risk.

Unfortunately, we have no rain date for the Run/Walk. Raleigh’s full event schedule means we get only one opportunity a year.

If you would like to pick up your event T-shirts, please join us for packet pickup 4-7 tonight at Capital RunWalk in Cameron Village. The store is also offering a 20 percent discount to our participants, so take advantage of that.

We know you are as saddened as we are at this turn of events. We are working on plans for an alternative celebration with you soon.

Please stay safe tomorrow.

Join us for the 18th annual Triangle Run/Walk for Autism! This year, the event will be in a new location: Halifax Mall, at 300 N. Salisbury St., in downtown Raleigh.

As many as 1 in 59 children may be diagnosed with autism in North Carolina. You can make a difference in the lives of children with autism and their families by registering for the Triangle Run/Walk for Autism. Registration is $30, but you can make an even bigger impact by recruiting family members, friends, and co-workers to form a team and raise donations — now is the time to start!

Proceeds from the Triangle Run/Walk for Autism will fund local programs of the Autism Society of North Carolina (ASNC), the leading statewide resource organization serving the over 65,000 people in NC across the spectrum throughout their lifespans. Everyone knows someone affected by autism — maybe your brother, cousin, friend at school, neighbor, or co-worker. Join others on October 8 to make a difference in the life of someone you care about with ASD. In the past 17 years, we have raised over $1,000,000 through this event. You can help!
