For those who may not be aware, our youngest son Jack has been diagnosed with autism. We are typically a very private family but we have decided to open up our hearts to anyone and everyone in hopes that we can help support others and create awareness. We are now on a journey where every day will be a new day. We will learn to adapt and live every moment to its fullest. As my brother Brandon Gillis stated, “a disability is only a disability if you allow it to be”. We couldn’t agree more. We hope by sharing this with you, we can help another family on this journey. My wonderful cousin, Laura Warwick, is part of our growing support network. Laura has created “Team Jack”, for the Triangle Run/Walk for Autism. Although Laura did this to support and encourage my family, she, as do we, want to raise awareness for all families and caregivers who are on this journey with us. THANK YOU!
The Autism Society of North Carolina is the leading statewide resource organization serving people across the autism spectrum throughout their lifespans.
We understand the challenges of the autism community because we work with individuals on the autism spectrum and their families every day. We offer advocacy, training and education, and direct care that helps individuals with autism to, increase their social and communication skills, develop independent-living skills, succeed in school or on the job, participate in community activities, and advocate for themselves.
We have a statewide network of resources, connecting individuals with autism and their families to life-changing programs and supports unavailable anywhere else.
