Hey! This is Nolan's page!
I thought about writing this from Nolan's voice, but honestly, that's one of the things we are missing out on as a family ... Nolan's voice. He's great about guiding me to open the freezer for a popsicle or requesting to go outside and play. But he does those things with body language. Just before Nolan's diagnosis at UNC in 2015, his speech started to fade. By August 2015, he was down to one word - GO - and we lost that a few weeks later. That is one of our autism challenges.
It's not like that for all kids on the spectrum. We are still trying to find out why Nolan regressed when he did and how he did. We are fortunate to have the means to try new tests and new doctors and keeping plugging away with his therapists. The Autism Society of NC allows families those opportunities too - connections in the community to make the lives of families living on the spectrum better.
We hope you will join Walking with Nolan as we raise autism awareness and raise funds to help families navigate this journey. Autism is different is every child, but every family living with autism has one thing is common ... we need support! It takes a village!
Thank you for Walking with Nolan and ASNC.
The Autism Society of North Carolina is the leading statewide resource organization serving people across the autism spectrum throughout their lifespans.
We understand the challenges of the autism community because we work with individuals on the autism spectrum and their families every day. We offer advocacy, training and education, and direct care that helps individuals with autism to, increase their social and communication skills, develop independent-living skills, succeed in school or on the job, participate in community activities, and advocate for themselves.
We have a statewide network of resources, connecting individuals with autism and their families to life-changing programs and supports unavailable anywhere else.
