My son, Logan, was diagnosed with Autism and Sensory Intergation Disorder at 6 years old, but only after A LOT of searching and pleading for the resources to help him be successful acdemically and socially. We saw psychiatrists, neuropsychologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and so on. We explored dietary changes and medications. All the while, we kept up our prayers for strength and understanding. We were discouraged by some, while others shone and were a blessing-filling us with encouragement, strategies, and sometimes, just a hug.
Logan is now 9 years old. He is witty and sarcastic. He loves music and video games. He is a straight-A student, a yellow belt in Karate, and has a smile that will get him anything he asks for! :) Despite any obstacle, he keeps that smile, his kindness, and his persistent humor.
When I asked Logan about starting a team for the 2017 Coastal NC Run/walk for Autism, he said "Of course!" I asked him to make a name, so here is the story behind our name "The Blue Pandas":
"Remember that time I had to count with Ms. ***** [physical therapy] for stretching? I kept messing up my 1-1000, 2-1000, so she taught me to say my favorite color and favorite animal. 'one-blue panda, two-blue panda". Well, blue is still my favorite color. And pandas are still my favorite because they are quiet and calm but they can be playful too. They love to eat bamboo like I love to eat shrimp. I think they are wild inside and gentle on the outside, just like me."
What a perfect name for us! Come join our team to run/walk, or just donate! Let's make sure other children don't go through all that Logan went through to get the support he needed. Let's spread the word about Autism and all these awesome kids!!
Thank you for supporting the Coastal NC Run/Walk for Autism! Your contribution is greatly appreciated.
